Re: Historic First ABC4All / Local ABC4All–India / Jazz For Peace FUNdraising Concert
G. Suresh Kumar joined as ABC4All Mentor from India on Apr 24th, 2007. The following is from his profile at Taking IT Global, the site of the ABC4All Global Mentoring TEAM Project: http://projects.tigweb.org/abc4allglobalteam
I am a post Graduate, who sacrifices a life for the development of poor dalit people. In India dalit means, Untouchables, who are not as equal as to high caste people. They live in separate places. Even some tea shops have separate glasses for dalits. In rural areas some saloons won’t allow dalits to cut their hair. Dalits are weaker than high caste people educationally, economically and socially. I am also from the same community. So I decided, to sacrifice my life for the development of my community people.
I have 12 years experience in the social field. I have formed an organization called PASS, Positive Awareness Service Society in 1995. From 1995 onwards I am doing some service for the development of poor dalits.
Our Motto is “Instead of giving a fish, we teach them to catch a fish.”
To reach out our motto, I strongly concentrate on education. Because, education can only will improve all aspects in our life. To reach our motto, all our programs and projects concentrate on development of poor dalit people. Our org. has gained permission from the central government to receive funds from foreign agencies. Now we are seeking help from the donors to strengthen our service.
My services to the community:
1. Conducting free evening classes for the poor dalit students.
2. Forming SHGs (women self help group) among dalit women. We have fromed 120 Groups. Total Savings of this Group: Rs. 1,045,000.
3. Conducting free paramedical courses to the poor educated dalit girls. Already we have trained 60 Students with the help of the Ananda Foundation – USA. It’s ongoing now.
4. We used to go to the villages with our paramedical students to create awareness and treatment.
5. We are conducting summer refresher courses for poor dalit students, who will write their final examination. Already we have coached 250 Students. All have secured high marks.
6. Distribution of Vitamin Tablets to the poor children with the help of SIGHT AND LIGHT – Switzerland.
7. We have planted trees in the rural areas.
8. We are conducting awareness classes on environment for the college and school students.
In the future we want to do the following:
1.To form a dalit Innovative Centre, consisting of resource materials, resource persons and provide training for High Government postings.
2. Mobile Health care unit to serve unserved Dalit people.
3. To construct a Hospital and paramedical centre to train and serve dalits.
4. To consruct a home for orphan and vulernable children.
5. Construct houses for Handicapped youths.

PASS (positive awareness service society)

G. Suresh Kumar has created a “Kernel of Hope” offering inspiration for others in the world. The caring of this man is obvious. He devotes his life to making a dent in his society, working tirelessly on behalf of “Dalits.” He has made great progress and wants to make even more. It goes without saying that PASS and G. Suresh Kumar deserve maximum support as he continues with his outstanding work in Tamil nadu.
With this occasion being the first ever concert by Jazz For Peace in India, we also are aware that there are a total of 47 ABC4All Mentors within the country of India. When ABC4All first Partnered with Jazz For Peace, Founder Rick DellaRatta assured us that if we were to generate another 800 concerts worldwide, that would not be overwhelming for the Jazz For Peace Foundation. ABC4All Mentors now number 1071 in 119 countries. Thus in India alone, if every ABC4All Mentor there did what G. Suresh Kumar has done, there would be another 46 such fundraising concerts for other worthwhile causes! If one ABC4All Mentor can do this can others also follow in his footsteps?
Can G. Suresh Kumar look forward to future additional concerts with Jazz for Peace on behalf of PASS so he can fulfill more of his wishes for his organization?
Will Jazz For Peace repeat its original concert at the United Nations in New York with Arab, Israeli, American Musicians performing? Will The World We Want 2015 allow youth all over the world to have their voice and bring ACTION to solving, finally the Millennium Development Goals? Can ABC4All as one of the ACTORS contribute?
These are the questions of the day. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Jazz For Peace and for the acceptance of the challenges involved that G. Suresh has managed to complete so that they are able to travel to India and perform.
The word of the day is easy to share – each and every person who witnesses this Concert can share with others the fact of what is possible in the world. The model tonight is the Kernel of Hope called PASS with G. Suresh Kumar devoting his life to helping improve that of the Dalits in his community. This type of caring and advocacy is exactly what the ABC4All Legacy is all about.
ABC4All cares. ABC4All Shares. YOU decide.
Now you can share more about PASS, about G. Suresh Kumar and you can encourage more of the same thanks to the work of a unique organization in the world, Jazz For Peace Foundation, Rick DellaRatta, Founder. Thank you to all who witness tonight’s concert.
