Project Summary
The situation of women in Pakistan
"No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you; we are victims of evil customs. It is a crime against humanity that our women are shut up within the four walls of the houses as prisoners. There is no sanction anywhere for the deplorable condition in which our women have to live."
Mohammad Ali Jinnah, 1944
(taken from the US Library of Congress report "Pakistan - A Country Study")
Since the inception of Pakistan women are facing many challenges to lead a happy.
They are considered subordinate and honour of men. They usually grew up in a biased atmosphere even sometimes this biased attitude done by mothers.
Women are suppressed both religiously and socially. Most of the time women have no choice except to follow the worst social traditions in the honor of their family.
In Pakistani society generally women cannot do anything independently. Most of the time they are not given opportunity to get education, they do not enjoy their childhood because of family economic conditions.
Particularly, Christian women/girls don’t have enough opportunities to go to school due to family economic conditions. They are compelled to work with their parents to meet the daily needs of life. These young girls mostly work as “DOMESTIC SERVENTS.” As domestic servant they face many they become victims of violence it could be in any form for example sexual, beaten, hate, stealing, and religiously motivated violence.
We have found through formal and informal discussion that the young girls of Christian community needs help to get rid off domestic working. They want that their children should enjoy their childhood and get proper education. They must not have deprivation like them.
They are motivated to get trainings to change their status of life. They know that domestic workers are not considered a respectful job. They even suffer in the Christian community as well.
Keeping in mind all the circumstances and economic conditions of the Christian community in Youhanabad and Asif Town suburb area of district Lahore.
We have planned to start two vocational training centres for the young Christian girls; where they will get training and adult education. Youhanabad and Asif Town are Christian populated areas. And mostly domestic working girls go to work from these areas in district Lahore.
The girls which will be provided vocational trainings at OPD vocational centres will become role models for their families and relatives, not only role model even an impressive motivation for others.
The training will bring a positive and meaningful change in their status of life. We believe that if we would be able to provide them vocational trainings, they will become self-reliant and they will feel pride in making their own business.
This change would be a positive sign through empowering Christian female youth, because these girls are tomorrow’s mothers and we see a constructive and positive change through theses young girls.
We also believe that if we educate a female child/youth actually we educate a family in future because these mothers will have awareness, motivation, and inspiration to let their child enjoy a good status of life by providing them opportunities to get education and skills. We are therefore, focusing on domestic working girls and girls at home to get vocational training of their interest to become a self-reliant and enjoy a good status of life in the society.
Project Goal
Eradication of poverty and illiteracy through provision of adult education, vocational skills and health facilities to empower high risk domestic working girls in district Lahore.
Project objectives
-
To involve and mobilize key influential persons in Yohanabad & Asif town, on the issue of Girl child domestic workers within a period of one year.
-
To establish 01 adult education and vocational training center for girl child domestic workers in Yohanabad, within a period of one year.
-
To provide adult education and vocational training to 100 girl child domestic workers in Yohanabad & Asif Town, within a period of one year.
-
To conduct 12 community meetings with targeted communities on the issue of girl child domestic workers/child labor in Lahore within a period of one year.
-

-
To establish 02 parent committee of girl child domestic workers in Yohanabad & Asif Town within a period of one year.
Project Location
The proposed project will be implemented at Yohanabad and Asif Town Lahore.
Project Beneficiaries
A target population of 100 female child domestic workers of two targeted areas would be direct beneficiaries and 100 x 06 = 600 people would be indirect beneficiaries of the project during the period of one year. The beneficiaries of the project are primarily rural/ semi urban and dwelling population in the slum area of Lahore. The socio-economic profile of the target population is as follows:
-
Daily wages unskilled laborers
Scavengers/Sanitary workers
-
Domestic servants
An average of monthly family income is approximately Pak RS. 4,000 to 6,000; whereas this income is consumed almost immediately as soon as it is earned to pay back the debts from various persons from whom money/articles of the daily use have been borrowed for the entire month. Therefore, the people do not have any power to spend money at their own will.
The girls remain entangled in the vicious cycle of disease and poverty, on leading to the other and vise versa. The question thus arises that when girls are not well physically and mentally, how can they be socially and spiritually well? Socio-economic status is an integral part of the development.
When girls have the equal opportunity and facilities to grow then they understand that they have a responsibility towards their life to change their ways of living and socio-economic status.
Project Team
The project team will consist of:
Project coordinator One
Literacy Teacher two
Beautician two
Vocational Teacher two

It will be done through regular activities in the shape of community meeting, group discussion, role-play and seminars with the parents and community with the help of core groups, volunteers and project team. It is also suggested that door-to-door campaign will also be carried out periodically to motivate the community about the basic human rights and the Convention of the Rights of Child.
Medical Check Up
A facility of complete medical check up will also be provided to each girl at centres on quarterly basis. A separate health card will be kept for each girl. It will be done through a hired female physician. Who would be responsible for managing the referral cases and any sort of emergencies taking place in the centres premises? It would be done through regular period for health education, which would be held in their timetable (one period per week). The Project Coordinator of OPD will be responsible to arrange these sessions with the cooperation of social mobilizers.
Meeting with communities
Formal and informal meetings will be held with the parents and communities in the target areas. Project Coordinator with the help of social mobilizers, vocational and literacy teachers will conduct these meetings. The main purpose of the meetings is to motivate communities for girl child’s adult education as well as vocational training.

Sustainability
The community reflects this project and with their participation it was started. This project activity will prove well in the process of developing the girls. They will be aware about the current activities and issues relevant to the child labour through awareness programs. People who will attend the program will work as a multiplier in the community; mean they will deliver the awareness to their related families and they will correct their activities regarding the child labour, which will be sustainability of the program.
Girls who will get adult education during this training they will learn the small skills which they will continue in their lives after finishing the project life. They will pass these skills to the other people by which all the other community especially girls will develop. Girls who will learn all the skills like (beautician, glass painting and dress designing, etc). They can prepare the dresses in their houses and with the help of the male persons are by itself they can go to the market and can sell it while organization for peace and development will provide the contacts. It will become the source of income and developing the community. The small exhibitions can be organized for which we (OPD) can invite factory/industrialists and rich families in regard t o support and introduce the commodities of the trainees of the vocational training centre of OPD as well as for the sustainability of the project. Beautician can establish their own parlour and will become the tool of extending the work of the project. These girls who will learn skills and education they will surely make the best use of it in the community, which will be sustainability of the project. These girls will train other girls and this process will be continuing after finishing the time period of project. All these activities will be continued in the community after finishing the project people who will be trained during the project period they will last this work with the community. In the centres small activities can be organized like menabazar, which will be a source of selling thing, prepared by the trainees and will get the contribution from the participants who will promote the sustainability of the project.
Indicators of Success
A routine monitoring system will be designed for a regular and periodic collections and analysis of various indicators as per objectives, which will enable to determine whether the activities are carried out as per plan or not. This monitoring system will also identify problems and will look for the possible and appropriate solutions.
According to the monitoring plan social mobilizers and teachers will report to Program Coordinator on fortnightly basis, which will prepare monthly report and financial statement. Periodic visits by Project Coordinator, Representative from Donor Agency (if possible), core groups of the target communities, and feedback from the beneficiaries will be used as monitoring tool along with reports of activities.
Methods used for data collection and analysis (focus group discussions), reporting and feedback, with the cooperation and collaboration of beneficiaries will be used for evaluation.
The nature of Monitoring & Evaluation will be participatory. The results will be seen as a way of providing constructive feedback. Participants will be given an opportunity to discuss the assessment and provide additional comments and suggestions.
